Abstract

Description
Charles Commander “Chuck” Clay is a Marietta attorney, former Cobb County commissioner, former Georgia State Senator and Senate minority leader, and former chair of the Georgia Republican Party. He comes from a distinguished Cobb County family. His great-grandfather, Alexander Stephens Clay, represented Georgia in the U. S. Senate from 1897 until his death in 1910. His grandfather, General Lucius D. Clay, Sr., was Commander in Chief of U. S. forces in Europe and military governor of the U. S. Zone in Germany from 1947 to 1949. General Clay is remembered for his supervision of the Berlin Airlift of 1948-49, keeping West Berlin well supplied and out of the hands of the Soviets in one of the first great crises of the Cold War. Chuck Clay’s father, Lucius D. Clay, Jr., was an Air Force general and recipient of numerous military awards including a distinguished flying cross, bronze star, and purple heart. Mr. Clay has also received a number of awards for his public service, especially with regard to legislation helping some of the most vulnerable members of society.
