Sound recording digitized from audiocassette of a telephone interview with J. (John) Edward Stahl by Hugh L. Gordon. Stahl discusses his education and his career at the Marietta location of Lockheed. Beginning in 1961 as a manager of training, Mr. Stahl talks about professional development opportunities for executives at Lockheed, segregation within upper management, and his service on the board of the Atlanta Urban League. He also addresses the purpose and operations of the vocational rehabilitation program at Lockheed.
John Edward Stahl was born on November 16, 1926, and adopted by Edward R. and Carrie Neiswender Stahl of Shamokin, Pennsylvania. After graduating from high school, Stahl enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1945. Following his discharge 18 months later, Mr. Stahl received a bachelor's degree in psychology from Bucknell University in 1949 and a master's degree in industrial and experimental psychology from the University of Delaware in 1950. He joined Lockheed in November 1961 as the manager of training. J. Edward Stahl died on March 21, 2015.
