Austin discusses her husband, Robert B. Troutman, including his involvement with the John F. Kennedy Presidential Campaign in Georgia 1960 and his efforts to create the Plans for Progress program.

Sound recording digitized from audiocassette of an interview between Lois Austin; Randall Patton, Professor of History at Kennesaw State University; and Hugh L. Gordon. Austin discusses her husband, Robert B. Troutman, including his involvement with the John F. Kennedy Presidential Campaign in Georgia 1960 and his efforts to create the Plans for Progress program.
Lois Dessez was born on August 15, 1922, in Washington, D.C. She attended Fairfax Hall in Virginia. In 1945 Lois married Robert Battey Troutman Jr. and settled in Atlanta, Georgia, becoming involved in several social and humanitarian organizations. On the death of her husband in 1991, Lois reconnected with a previous suitor, Daniel Austin, and the two were married in 1993. They remained together until Daniel's death in 2000. Lois Austin had three children: Bruce Troutman, George Troutman, and a daughter, Hoodie. At the time of her death on March 22, 2014, Mrs. Austin had seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
