Description
Sound recording of a telephone interview digitized from an audiocassette with Jim Mercer by Hugh L. Gordon. Mercer was in labor relations at the Marietta location of Lockheed in 1961, during the complaint filed by African American workers that reported racial discrimination at the plant. The complaint threatened to derail the U.S. government's orders with Lockheed, as it conflicted with Kennedy's Executive Order 10925 banning discrimination in federal contracts. Mercer discusses Lockheed's response to the complaints and the formation of the Plans for Progress program.
