Sound recording digitized from an audiocassette of interview with Wade Mitchell by Hugh L. Gordon. Mitchell discusses his career with The Trust Company of Georgia from 1962 to 1993, particularly the years following 1968. This was when Mr. Mitchell was the head of the personnel department and helped to implement affirmative action policies and training in the organization. He also served as the Region IV Vice President for the National Association of Business circa 1976 to 1977.
Wade Mitchell was born in Atlanta, Georgia. He graduated from North Fulton High School in 1953 and from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1956. While at Georgia Tech, Mitchell was a quarterback for the football team and was an Academic All-America in 1955. After receiving his bachelor's degree in textile engineering from Georgia Tech, Mitchell enlisted in the U.S. Navy for two years. On being discharged, he attended the Harvard Business School. On receiving his degree, Mitchell worked for one year at the West Point Pepperell Manufacturing Company as a management trainee. In 1962, he accepted a trainee position in the credit department of The Trust Company of Georgia. Mitchell held a number of titles within Trust Company, including branch manager, head of personnel and operations support, and vice president of administrative services.
