Abstract
Oral history interview with KSU professor of biology Dr. William E. Ensign.
Description
A member of the KSU faculty since 1997, Dr. Ensign is a professor of biology and 2015 recipient of the Meritorious Teaching Award of the Association of Southeastern Biologists. The award recognizes his remarkable record in co-authoring articles and co-presenting papers with his undergraduate students. He has twice (2001 and 2010) received a Distinguished Scholarship Award from the College of Science and Mathematics. Since the early 21st century, he has been contracting with Paulding, Bartow, and Cobb Counties on watershed assessment projects. Those activities have included many science students and have led to a number of papers and presentations. In recent years he has been heavily involved in research projects on Raccoon Creek in Paulding County, a stream noted for its biodiversity, with some 45 different species of fish. In January 2018 he helped organize a Raccoon Creek Symposium, involving students and faculty from a number of area schools and colleges, as well as the Nature Conservancy, Georgia Department of Natural Resources, and local government officials.
