Oral history interview with Dr. Lonnie King, Jr., the chair of the Atlanta Student Movement.
Description
Lonnie King, Jr. was born in Arlington, Georgia. He is a U.S. Navy veteran and a graduate of Morehouse, where he led the Atlanta Student Movement's political, economic, and legal boycotts against segregated lunch counters in Atlanta, GA during 1960-61. Dr. King coordinated Martin Luther King's participation in the Rich's sit-ins and also coordinated civil rights issues surrounding the FCC and minority representation in broadcasting. In this interview, he discusses his personal background, the genesis of the Atlanta Student Movement and the Committee on the Appeal for Human Rights (COAHR), and finally his opinion on the future of civil rights movements in the U.S.
