Oral history interview with Adairsville resident Mary Carreathers.
Description
Born in Adairsville, Georgia, in 1940, Mary Carreathers attended Fort Valley State University before returning to teach Home Economics in the local school system. She was the first African American woman to serve on the Adairsville city council. In her interview, she recounts her father’s work on the railroad, her experiences with racism in the community, and her commitment to public service.
